Medicare extends Mental Health Care Plan scheme

Medicare and the Australian Federal Government recently announced an extension to the Medicare funded Mental Health Care Plan system to offer an increased number of rebated sessions of Clinical Psychology, meaning increased access to mental health.

Previously up to 10 sessions of Clinical Psychology were eligible for Medicare rebates per calender year under a GP issued Mental Health Care Plan.  Now, for those who need it, and with a GP issued additional referral, up to 10 further sessions (maximum 20 in total) are allowed.  If you have already utilised 10 sessions this year, and need additional mental health support from a Clinical Psychologist, see you GP to discuss an extended referral.
